CagVal’s COVID-19 cases now over 2,000, death toll hits 34

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Oct. 10 (PIA) – – In the span of eight months, the cases of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Cagayan Valley Region has already reached 2, 015 as per latest bulletin of the Department of Health (DOH) region 2.

Isabela remains to be the province with the highest number of cumulative cases with 820, followed by Nueva Vizcaya with 578, Cagayan with 513, Santiago City with 97, Quirino with 5, and Batanes with only 2 cases.


Regional Director Rio Magpantay said there are 357 active cases as of today in which 203 are in Isabela, 110 in Cagayan, 25 in Nueva Vizcaya, 17 in Santiago City and 2 in Batanes while there are no longer active case in Quirino.

Despite increasing cases, the number of recoveries is also significantly increasing with 1,624 as of press time. Isabela has the highest number of recoveries with 607, Nueva Vizcaya with 536, Cagayan with 397, and Quirino with five.

Magpantay also reported that there are already 34 death cases today in which 17 are from Nueva Vizcaya, 10 in Isabela, 6 in Cagayan and one in Santiago City.

He also said there were 29, 121 specimen collected and tested in the region in which 26, 106 were tested negative while only 2, 015 turned positive resulting to 6.9 percent positivity rate.

Magpantay further reiterated to the public the practice of minimum health standards to avoid being infected with the virus and not to be added in the COVID-19 statistics. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
