El Salvador to hold tender of AWS spectrum next month

El Salvador telecommunications watchdog Siget has confirmed that it will finally tender 120MHz of spectrum in the 1700MHz/2100MHz (AWS) bands on 05 December several months after launching the auction process. The regulator said it will tender 12 lots of 2×5MHz frequencies covering the whole of the country in 20-year concessions, having opted for a public auction with a view to “boosting competition, opening the market to new entrants, promoting mobile broadband penetration and reducing the digital divide”.

The reserve price is USD 6.25 million per lot and both local and foreign companies are free to bid. Siget made no mention of the additional 20MHz in the 1900MHz band it was also intending to auction.
