RIO DE JANEIRO, July 12 (Xinhua) — Former Barcelona and Brazil international midfielder Paulinho could join Brazilian Serie A club Gremio, according to media reports in the South American country.
Paulinho has been without a club since his contract with Guangzhou FC expired on June 30. According to Brazilian news outlet, Globo Esporte, Gremio boss Luiz Felipe Scolari – who was Paulinho’s manager at the Chinese Super League club – has personally contacted the 32-year-old with a view to signing him on a free transfer.
The report added that the ex-Corinthians and Tottenham Hotspur player is also considering offers from clubs in Europe and the Middle East.
Paulinho scored 75 goals and provided 29 assists in 176 matches for Guangzhou, helping the club win two Chinese Super League titles, an AFC Champions League trophy, a Chinese FA Cup and two Chinese Super Cups.
The box-to-box playmaker has not played an official match since November 2020 but has remained fit by training with his former club Bragantino.
