SANTIAGO, May 24 (Xinhua) — Midfielder Felipe Mendez has been added to Chile’s squad for friendlies against South Korea and Tunisia, the South American country’s football federation said on Tuesday.
Mendez, who plays for Chilean top-flight club Union Espanola, replaces Diego Valdes, who was injured while playing for Mexico’s Club America.
Galatasaray defensive midfielder Erick Pulgar also withdrew from the squad for personal reasons, the federation said in a statement, without providing details.
Chile will face South Korea in Daejeon on June 6 and Tunisia in the Japanese city of Kobe four days later.
Patricio Ormazabal will be in charge of Chile for the matches, having replaced Martin Lasarte following the team’s failure to qualify for this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
